Anna Emilia Laitinen is a very talented young Finnish illustrator whose paintings are extremely delicate, poetic and soothing – just like a beautiful dream!
She grew up in Leppävirta, “a small town in Finland with strawberry fields, lakes and pine forests” as she describes it in her biography. At the age of 20 she moved to Iceland to work with children in a kindergarden. The beautiful nature of Iceland and the spontaneity of children clearly has left long lasting influence in Anna Emilia’s work who later went back to Finland to study graphic design and illustration. Now living in Tampere, at the young age of thirty she is a rising star contributing in a lot of magazines in Finland and also very international and inspiring ones such as Kinfolk and Frankie Magazine. She has also illustrated several books, my favorite being “The bear and the sun”, a very beautiful nordic story with the most beautiful illustrations. Her work has also translated into other products such as children clothing for Jacadi, the classic french brand, bed linen and the very beautiful Journal published by Chronicle books.
Anna Emilia’s blog called Weather diary is full of poesy and beautiful photographs and her online shop hosts prints of some of her paintings. If you can’t wait for spring and flowers to come, the May Bouquet print will bring the feeling home immediately.
